7Sb.1: Summarize the structures and
functions of the major Indicators of plant and animal cells (including the cell
wall, the cell membrane, the nucleus, chloroplasts, mitochondria, and
vacuoles).
Lesson
on Structures and Functions of Plant and Animal Cells
Group Activity
1) The students will be taken to the library and put into groups of 4.
2) The teacher would have the students sit at tables where books about plants and animals are on the table, including science books (Glencoe) and other gathered resources. (Information Center/Computer Lab)
3) There will be a list of organelles and the students must place the proper organelles either in the Plant cell part of the Venn, the Animal cell part of the Venn, and the section that contains both.
4) They will use the books to define the organelles in the plant and animal cell and write the definitions in the Venn
The teacher will demonstrate how to use the book to find the mitochondria and how it creates ATP and is found in both cells
QUESTION 1
What organelles do plant and animal cells share?
Plant and animal cells share: cell membrane, nucleus, DNA/chromosomes, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Golgi Complex, Vacuole, and Cytoplasm
QUESTION 2
How are the organelles that plant and animal cells share like the parts of a city?
- - Cell membrane- body guard
- - Golgi complex- ups shipping
- - Nucleus-brain/governor
- - Endoplasmic Reticulum-Packing plant
- - Vacuole- storage
- - Cytoplasm- Jell-O/highway of cell
